Marshfield, Mo., native celebrates Grand Ole Opry debut with new single
MARSHFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - DEK of Hearts is riding a big weekend high.
On Friday, the trio made their Grand Ole Opry debut, earning two standing ovations and even shared the stage with Carly Pearce. As they soaked in the moment of standing in the circle, they were also celebrating the release of their newest single, “Crazy Lady.”
The trio first started turning heads last year with “Taillights,” a breakup ballad they wrote themselves.
After their time on NBC’s “The Voice,” they put out “Dear Ole Whiskey” and “Something In The Well.” Both singles drew inspiration straight from Marshfield native Kollin Bailey’s home life. But “Crazy Lady” stands out. It reunites them with the writer behind “Dear Ole Whiskey,” yet has a totally different vibe, sparked by a random idea rather than a personal story.
“It’s definitely just a random idea that Dylan had and we ran with it – like a woman that you would see in the movies or that you would hear about in your family,” said DEK of Hearts member Emily Clapp. “It’s those people that when you first meet them, they really look put together, they really look like they’ve got it figured out, but the second you step out of the environment you met them in, or maybe in this case the alcohol wears off a little bit, you realize ‘wait a second you’ve got a couple screws loose.’”
“Crazy Lady” is also only the second song they’ve ever cut live in the studio, something they say gives this track a lot more energy and life.
“We got to speak more into this song than like ‘Taillights’ or ‘Something In The Well’,” Bailey said. “So, it was really cool to see these incredible musicians, like some of Carly’s band, players that play on some of the hits that you hear on the radio today, getting to bring kind of their, what they hear and blend it with what we were hearing.”
As for an album, the group says its focus is on releasing a single at a time. “Crazy Lady” is out now wherever you get your music.
